David Cameron has been splashing the cash on lavish gifts for wife Samantha... treating her to a £1,500 Nissan Micra.
£1,500
The millionaire Prime Minister picked up the 12-year-old motor from the forecourt of a second-hand dealership in his Witney constituency.
Iain Harris, who owns the dealership, thought it was a wind-up when he was told Mr Cameron wanted to pop in and look at the bargain runabout.
They shook on the very reasonable price after Mr Cameron spent about half an hour kicking the tyres and examining the practical supermini.
Mr Morris said the PM was keen to ensure he was buying a British-made vehicle.
And he says he joked that Mr Cameron wouldn't want a model in red.
Mr Morris said: "He came to have a look at the car on Friday evening and was a normal, standard customer who was easy to deal with. He didn't take the car for a test-drive and didn't haggle on the price."
The Prime Minister returned the following day to pick up the Micra.
Cameron is normally chauffeured around in a top-of-the-range Jaguar XJ, but it isn't the first little runaround he has bought Samantha, his wife of almost 20 years.
In 1998, as a rising member of the Conservative Party, he bought a 1971 Fiat 500 as a gift for wife Samantha. They kept the car for ten years.
The Prime Minister was today described by Mr Morris as "a normal customer" who was easy to deal with, adding he didn't try to barter over the asking price of the Micra.
Samantha's new car, which has 92,321 miles on the clock, is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine developing a modest 79bhp.
This gives the little car a 0-60mph time of 13.9 seconds and a top speed of around 106 mph. It will also do 49mpg and cost £130 per year to tax.
It was sold with an AA three months parts and labour warranty.
One of David Cameron 's neighbours, Jeremy Clarkson , said he wasn't a fan of the Micra but said it was "sort of sweet".
