2016 BMW M135i 3.0-liter turbocharged 326PS

BMW had previously detailed the changes on the flagship version of its facelifted 1-Series, the M135i, but this is our first look at the car.

Along with a pair of official press shots of the five-door M135i from BMW, we also discovered photos of the three-door version caught out on the road by Autogespot member DGCars33.

The update M135i continues to look inconspicuous and the only way to tell it apart from lesser 1-Series models fitted with the M Sport package are the two separated exhaust pipes and silver-painted mirror caps and trims on the air-inlets of the front bumper.

As with the rest of the range, the M135i gets a revised front end with reshaped headlamps and double kidney grilles, and L-shaped LED taillights that wrap around the fenders and redesigned boot hatch.

Under the hood, the M135i gets the M235i's improved 3.0-liter turbocharged straight-six with an additional 7-horses producing 322hp (326PS) and 450Nm (332 lb-ft).

The rear-wheel drive version goes from zero to 100km/h (62mph) in 5.1 seconds when opted with the 6-speed manual, and in 4.9 seconds with the revised 8-speed automatic transmission. Both body styles are available with BMW's xDrive all-wheel drive system connected exclusively to the 8sp automatic – this is the fastest combo as it allows the M135i to hit 100km/h (62mph) in 4.7 seconds.
