Fiat 500X Crossover

An official-looking image of the forthcoming Fiat 500X SUV has surfaced online ahead of next month's Paris Motor Show

What appears to be an official image of the forthcoming Fiat 500X has leaked online, ahead of the new crossover’s public debut at the Paris Motor Show next month.

As you can see, up front there’s a resemblance to Fiat’s popular 500, including the rounded headlights, matching fog lights and chrome bar-mounted badge. This isn’t just an inflated supermini though, as suggested by the longer, flatter bonnet, rugged body cladding and gaping lower grille.

Styling cues aside, there’s also little resemblance to the boxy 500L MPV, the Italian manufacturer instead opting for smoother lines – particularly at roof level – and a more angular front bumper.

While Fiat isn’t giving much away at this stage, we know the 500X will be built alongside and share underpinnings with the Jeep Renegade, using the ‘Small Wide’ platform found in the 500L.
It’s unlikely to be the only resemblance between the co-developed cars, with two- or four-wheel drive on offer and similar engine line-ups also expected in both cars, although the 500X will take a less off-road-focused approach. In the UK, the predominantly front-wheel drive range will likely include a 1.4-litre turbo with various power outputs and a 1.6-litre Multijet diesel.

The newest member of the Fiat 500 family arrives as Fiat looks to simplify its range, and will serve as a replacement for the axed Sedici.

Following the full reveal at Paris in October, 500X production will commence at Fiat’s factory in Melfi, Italy, with an on sale date set for early next year, probably around March. Prices will be revealed near to launch, but expect it to line up against the Nissan Juke and Peugeot 2008.
