Ford adds a 3.0-liter Power Stroke diesel in F-150 land for 2018, the company was surprisingly coy about the 3.0-liter Power Stroke diesel engine that will be offered in the truck next spring.
This 3.0-liter turbodiesel engine sourced from Jaguar Land Rover.
Citing an unidentified Jaguar Land Rover employee, the publication is reporting the F-150 will use the same 3.0-liter turbodiesel engine that is offered in the Land Rover Discovery.
The engine produces 254 hp (189 kW) and 443 lb-ft (600 Nm) of torque in that particular model but it remains unclear if the output will change in Ford's application.
The report goes on to note that Jaguar Land Rover recently announced plans to double the size of its Wolverhampton engine plant and hire an additional 700 employees.
At the time, Jaguar Land Rover said the expansion was needed to keep up with demand but it's possible that Ford's decision to use the engine also played a part in the expansion.
Pricing and availability are still unofficial, however, and it is likely the new engine will have a surcharge of around $3,500 over the 5.0L V-8 or 3.5L EcoBoost V-6.
Mated to the F-150’s 10-speed automatic, expect the diesel to offer competitive towing and even better fuel economy than the Ram (currently rated at 29 highway mpg).
At launch, the 2018 F-150 will be offered with an all-new 3.3-liter V6 that produces 290 hp (216 kW) and 265 lb-ft (358 Nm) of torque.
The company will also offer a 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine with 325 hp (242 kW) and 400 lb-ft (541 Nm) of torque as well as a 5.0-liter V8 that develops 395 hp (294 kW) and 400 lb-ft (541 Nm) of torque.
