Ford Performance upgrade kit takes Focus ST to 275 hp

Let’s be honest, horsepower and torque figures are never enough and everybody tries to squeeze a little more juice out of the available package. In fact, that’s what sparked the horsepower war between car manufactuers. C’mon, we live in a world where there are 1,200 horspower road-legal monsters and 570 Hp “family” estates. Oh, and confirmed AWD, 2.3-litre 345 Hp hatchbacks.

With these kind of power figures, there’s no wonder why everybody wants their cars to come with a little extra oomph, and that’s why some people turn their attention to tuning after buying a car. But modifying a new car has its drawbacks; for starters, you’ll lose your warranty and, most importantly, you don’t always have the certainty that the car will be reliable in the future with the new tune. 

Package adds 23 horsepower and 26 lb.-ft. of torque

Luckily for some people, some car manufacturers begin to offer performance upgrade kits with a little more “go” compared to the standard offering. Ford is one of those car manufacturers and it just released a revised, upgraded boost for the 2015 Ford Focus ST. 

The kit includes a Mountune induction kit, a high-flow intercooler, an mTune handset and loads of installation hardware. All in all, the package offers 23 additional horses and 26 lb-ft (35 Nm) of torque over the standard spec. That translates into a 275 horsepower figure and a 300 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque output. A 2.0-liter hatchback developing 400 Nm of torque – I’ll let that sink in for a while. 

The ECU was recalibrated to deliver a more aggressive mapping program and a quick throttle response. Ford says that the components of the MP275 Focus ST performance upgrade were design to ensure maximum reliability. In fact, this package sold through Ford Performance Parts maintains the base car’s factory-backed three-year/36,000 mile warranty. 

Developed by Mountune, the entire kit costs $1,900 and the tuner recommends premium fuel only in order to achieve these power figures.
