We'll start with the compact hatchback's exterior that has been subtly updated with a more arrow-shaped front bumper, a diamond-grille as standard, new optional LED headlamps (standard on the AMG), revised tail lights, and a new rear bumper that incorporates integrated exhaust pipes.

On the inside, Mercedes' designers gave the A-Class the same dual instrument binnacle as on the CLA and GLA, new switches, an upgraded infotainment system that can be optionally had with a larger 8-inch screen and which is now compatible with Apple CarPlay and Mirrolink, revamped seats as well as new colors and trim finishes, plus improved materials.

There are plenty of changes under the hood where aside from a more powerful A45 AMG with 381PS (376hp) on which we'll bring full details and pictures in a following post, Benz increased the range of available engines while also revising existing units.

New for this year is the entry-level A 160 with a 102PS (99hp) 1.6-liter four-cylinder and the greenest A-Class yet, the A 180d BlueEFFICIENCY Edition that has a 109PS (108hp) 1.5-liter diesel returning a combined economy of 3.5l/100km (67.2mpg US / 80.7mpg UK) with CO2 emissions of 89g/km. Elsewhere, the new A 220 d and A250 petrol both get a 7hp boost in output.

If you didn't notice it already, Mercedes made a change in its secondary nomenclature switching their diesel identification from 'CDI' to 'd'.

A new feature for the facelift model is the adaptive damping system named 'DYNAMIC SELECT' that is standard on the A 200 d 4MATIC, A 220 4MATIC, A 220 d, A 220 d 4MATIC, A 250 4MATIC, A 250 Sport and A 250 Sport 4MATIC, and all models with 7G-DCT, AMG Line or a lowered suspension, and optional on all other variants except the two BlueEFFICIENCY Edition models. The system offers four driving modes named "Comfort", "Sport", "Eco" and "Individual".

Finally, Mercedes has created a new "Motorsport Edition" inspired by the firm's F1 team that will be available on all engine variants from the A 200/A 200 d upwards besides the A 45. It adorns the hatch with petrol green accents on the body and the AMG wheels, as well as in the interior that has standard sport seats.

In Europe, the revised A-Class will be available for order from July 3, with first deliveries in September.
