Meet The new MINI Clubman

2016 MINI Clubman
MINI continues to evolve…and grow in all sorts of ways under the caring arms of the BMW Group, with their latest model, the new Clubman, being the brand's largest vehicle yet. That is, at least until next year's Countryman that may prove to be even bigger.

The second-gen Clubman has been turned into a regular station wagon with four passenger doors while maintaining its predecessor's irregular twin door arrangement at the rear.

At 4,253 (168.3 in.) long, 1,800mm (70.9 in.) wide and 1,441mm (56.7 in.) tall, with a 2,670mm (105.1 in.) wheelbase, the new Clubman is 270mm longer (10.6 in.) and 73mm (2.9 in.) wider than the car it replaces. It's also 270mm (10.6 in.) longer, 90mm (3.5 in.) wider and with a 100mm (3.9 in.) longer wheelbase than the new 5-door MINI Hatch.

It has five regular seats, while the luggage compartment has grown to 360 liters (82 liters more than the hatch and 10 liters more than the Countryman) rising to 1,250 liters when the 60:40 or optional, 40:20:40 rear backseat, is folded down.

Riding on the same architecture that underpins the latest 3- and 5-door MINI hatchbacks, as well as BMW's 2-Series Active Tourer range, the Clubman benefits from the group's latest 3- and 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol and diesel units.

In Europe, the new model will launch in three flavors, including the Cooper D with a 150PS (148hp) 2.0L four-cylinder diesel; the Cooper with a 136PS (134hp) 1.5L three-cylinder petrol, and the Cooper S sporting a 192PS (189hp) 2.0L four-cylinder petrol. All models get a 6-speed manual as standard, with the Cooper offering an optional 6-speed automatic, and the other two, an 8-speed automatic.

In North America, the Clubman will go on sale at the beginning of 2016 in Cooper (134hp 1.5L, three-cylinder gasoline engine with 6sp manual or 6sp automatic) and Cooper S trims (189hp 2.0L, four cylinder gasoline with 6sp manual or 8sp automatic).

More versions, including a John Cooper Works performance edition, will follow.
