Audi TT Clubsport Turbo Concept

Audi is undoubtedly well aware that with tweaking it could make its TT sports car nearly as fast or even faster than the more exclusive R8. Well, now, it has done so, but only in the form of a concept bound for the W̦rthersee VW show, in Austria, between 13 Р16 May.

It’s the second Clubsport-branded model from the VW group bound for the Austrian venue, the other being a rather tasty looking unique Golf GTI that has so far only been seen in design sketches.

But back to this Audi and its delicious sounding engine: 600 PS / 650 NM or 479 lb-ft from 2.5-liters of five-pot goodness, helped by a turbocharger and an electric supercharger. This propels the car to 100 km/h or 62 mph in 3.6 seconds and on to a top speed of 310 km/h (192.6 mph); yes, it’s got Quattro all-wheel drive for added grip too.

Audi is keen to point out that by using the electric supercharger system, this TT is able to “cover up to 16 meters (52.5 ft) within the first 2.5 seconds – which is six meters (19.7 ft) further than a comparable car without this innovation. That is a difference of around one and one-half car lengths.”

Design wise, Audi went with a 1980s IMSA look, drawing inspiration from its 90 IMSA GTO. The car is widened by 14 cm or 5.5 inches courtesy of a complete and unique body kit. It features a manually adjustable carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRF) rear wing, as well as a wider overall profile, all of which is built using the same new material.

Audi says it’s a development of the kit they use in the dedicated Audi Sport TT Cup racing series.

On the inside it’s a similar story; it’s all TT, but with unique touches fit for a concept. It features CFRF trim pieces, black Alcantara as well as orange accents to finish it off.
