2015 Mercedes-Benz SL 417 Mille Miglia

The Mercedes-Benz nameplate boasts a lot of highlights over its 86-year history, particularly in the world of racing. This year, the German brand is celebrating one of them in a big way.

The automaker has just announced the ‘Mille Miglia’ aesthetic package for the SL400 and SL500 sports cars, which commemorates the 60th anniversary of the team’s victory at the Mille Miglia long-distance race.

In 1955, a Mercedes 300 SL completed the 1,000-mile sprint through Italy in 11 hours, 29 minutes, and 21 seconds to unexpectedly win the production class. Driver John Fitch and co-driver Kurt Gessl took fifth place overall, while a 300 SLR garnered the event’s general win.

Fitch’s 300 SL wore the race number 417, which gives the new car its ‘Mille Miglia 417’ moniker.

The package, which will be limited to just 500 units, includes Magnetite Black Metallic paint (pictured) as standard, while Designo Night Black Mango, Designo Cashmere White Mango, and Designo Diamond White are also available.

Shades of red play off the SL-Class’ matte exterior, with scarlet accents popping up on the front lip, rear apron, brake calipers, and wheel surrounds. The SL Special Edition Mille Miglia 417 also wears 19-inch AMG Performance wheels up front and 20-inchers out back.

The chic decoration continues inside the cabin, which is ornamented with red and black Napa leather, matte carbon fiber trim, and AMG seats with leather headrests that feature ‘SL Mille Miglia’ lettering.


The package will be available to order starting April 7th, starting at €14,800 ($16,772) for the SL400 and €12,800 ($14,509) for the SL500.
The car will make its official debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, which commences March 5th.
