Infiniti shows new QX30 small crossover concept

Infiniti gave us a better look at its smallish QX30 concept before its reveal at the Geneva auto show in March. We saw the rear in a teaser shot earlier this month. The crossover hints at a future premium compact, according to the company, “and gives a strong indication of the brand’s commitment to the segment.”

Infiniti says the theme is “stylish protection” (whatever that means). It includes more aluminum trim and sculpted skid plates with graphics. The lower cladding and roof bars are made from carbon fiber, which adds to the vehicle’s “lightweight performance character.” The 21-inch wheels and large-profile tires give the QX30 a sturdy stance.

Those roof racks extend inward along the glass roof, according to Infiniti, and provide a virtual sculpture for the rear passengers to look through.

We’ll admit the concept looks super-slick, especially without things like door handles. Plus, the small SUV/CUV segment has been steadily growing for some time. Infiniti is likely thinking there’s no time like the present, and it’s probably right.
