In 2007, Apple CEO Steve Jobs met with French designer Philippe Starck for the first time, and asked the Frenchman to build him a boat. After countless one-on-one meetings, dozens of flights from Paris to Los Angeles, and many years in development, Jobs’ 269 foot ‘Venus’ had been completed. And this is it.
While on vacation in the British Virgin Islands, Beth Colt of the Woods Hole Inn captured these stunning and rare photos of the mega yacht, describing what she saw as “something suitable for a villain in a Bond movie.” Given that large and imposing shape, we’d say she’s spot on.
Named after the Roman goddess of love, ‘Venus’ was constructed in The Netherlands’ Royal De Vries shipyard, though tragically not before Jobs lost his battle to cancer in 2011. The vessel has since been left to Jobs’ widow, Laurene Powell Jobs.
Few specifics are actually confirmed about the ship, though a 2014 Vanity Fair article confirms Venus’ 82 meter hull length and six identical bedrooms. Although rumored, the ship’s control deck featuring seven 27-inch iMac screens and a total price tag of over €100 million ($118 million) have not been confirmed.
One of the photographs, taken fittingly with an iPhone, shows a rare view inside the lower rear deck, while other shots reveal your typical seaworthy teak furniture dotting the bow and stern decks.
