2015 Mazda Carol unveiled in Japan: 660cc 52PS

2015 Mazda Carol
Essentially a rebadged Suzuki Alto, the Carol has a straight forward design which eschews the company's trademark Kodo styling philosophy. The end result isn't terribly attractive but at least it's not too offensive.

The entry-level model comes sparsely equipped but features air conditioning, keyless entry and a 2-speaker audio system. Higher-end variants are more palatable as they offer power windows, a tilt steering wheel and heated front seats.

Power is provided by a 660cc engine that produces 49 PS (36 kW) and 58 Nm (42 lb-ft) of torque. There's also a VVT variant which develops 52 PS (38 kW) and 63 Nm (46 lb-ft) of torque.

What the Carol lacks in power, it makes up in efficiency as the entry-level variant returns 27.2 km/L (3.6 L/100km / 63.9 mpg US / 76.8 mpg UK). The VVT version is even more fugal as it returns 37.0km / L (2.7 L/100km / 87 mpg US / 104.5 mpg UK).

The Mazda Carol will go on sale on January 30th and pricing starts at ¥847,800 ($7,026 / €5,763 / £4,529).
