Rolls-Royce unveils its latest bespoke collection

The luxury car maker is ending the year on a bespoke high with the Suhail Collection, its first limited edition collection that encompasses its entire family of cars.

Typically, when Rolls-Royce creates a very special edition, it is confined to a specific model, but for the first time ever a bespoke model will come in Phantom limousine and Phantom Coupé, Ghost and Wraith versions.

Suhail is one of the brightest star constellations and is believed by many to have been a major source of inspiration for the 10th-century Arabic mathematician, astronomer and physicist Ibn al-Haitham, the first scientist to put forward the notion that light is reflected into the eyes. His pioneering work has left a lasting impression on Western scientific thinking that persists to this day.

Therefore, it should come as little surprise that celestial bodies, reflections and light are strong design and detailing themes that run throughout the bespoke collection of cars that bears its name.

The exterior paint finish is a unique moonstone pearl color that glistens and is off-set by a hand-painted Turchese Blue coachline.

Inside, the cabin's ash burr wood fascias feature hand-matched and hand-set Suhail star emblems and the bespoke clock in the center of the dashboard console features the Suhail Ursa Minor and Major constellations on its clockface.

Contrasting creme light and turchese leathers have been selected for the seats and perhaps the most striking interior touch is the roof liner which, on the Phantom and Wraith models, illuminates like a constellation with hundreds of star lights plus an embroidered outline of the Suhail Ursa Minor and Major constellations.

The Suhail Collection is the sixth and most ambitious bespoke run of cars that Rolls-Royce has created in 2014 and serves to highlight that personalization is at the heart of the Rolls-Royce brand. Special collections notwithstanding, 90% of Wraith models, 80% of Ghost models and nearly 100% of Phantoms built in 2014 left the company's Goodwood production facility with some element of client-commissioned bespoke design.
