Consumers have been waiting for these numbers, since this is the first Corvette Z06 to offer a supercharged engine. GM says the 2015 Corvette Z06 is the most powerful production car ever from General Motors and one of the most powerful production cars available in the U.S.
It is on sale now at Chevrolet dealerships.
The Corvette Z06 is equipped with a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine that churns out 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque.
Even though the eight-speed automatic transmission version of the 2015 Corvette Z06 is subject to a $1,300 gas-guzzler tax, Chevrolet spokesman Monte Doran is putting a positive spin on the EPA numbers.
"It is one of the most fuel-efficient 650-hp cars you can get," he told .
In comparison, the 2015 Corvette Z06 with a 6.2-liter V8 engine and seven-speed manual transmission delivers 17 mpg in city driving and 29 mpg on the highway, according to the EPA. This version is not subject to the gas-guzzler tax, Doran notes.
The EPA update on the Corvette Z06 comes at a time when gasoline prices have dipped below $3 a gallon. The AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report on Wednesday pegged the average price for a gallon of unleaded gasoline in the U.S. at $2.81 versus $3.28 a year ago.
In comparison, the 2015 Dodge Viper SRT coupe with an 8.4-liter V10 engine and six-speed manual transmission returns 21 mpg in city driving and 21 mpg on the highway, according to the EPA.
