BMW 220d Coupe 2-litre Turbo diesel 190 hp

The BMW 2 Series Coupe inspires with outstanding sportiness in the compact segment, whilst also convincing with optimum fuel consumption and emission levels. The dynamic two-door model yet again significantly raises the bar for highest efficiency. With a new four-cylinder diesel power unit under its bonnet and the optional 8-speed Steptronic transmission, the BMW 220d Coupe not only hits the 100 km/h mark in a mere 7 seconds, but also attains a CO2 emission level of less than 100 grams.
The 2-litre diesel power unit is a member of the new BMW Group engine family. It features the latest version of BMW TwinPower Turbo technology, achieves a maximum power output of 140 kW/190 hp, whilst delivering a maximum torque of 400 Newton metres. In the BMW 220d Coupe it is also combined with newly developed transmissions. As a result, with the standard 6-speed manual gearbox, the two-door car accomplishes an average fuel consumption of 4.4 to 4.1 litres/100 km and a CO2 level of 115 to 107 grams per km. In conjunction with the 8-speed Steptronic transmission, the corresponding levels are between 4.1 and 3.8 litres/107 and 99 grams respectively (figures as per EU-test cycle, depending on selected tyre size).  This is the equivalent of a reduction in fuel consumption of up to 0.4 litres/100 km and of CO2 emissions by as much as 12 g/km.
Lighter, more powerful, more efficient, more comfortable: The new four-cylinder diesel engine featuring BMW TwinPower Turbo technology.
The latest generation of four-cylinder diesel engines from BMW offers not only further optimised efficiency, but also a multitude of additional qualities that comply with the BMW EfficientDynamics principle. Compared with the predecessor engine, the power unit deployed in the BMW 220d Coupe achieves a 5 kW increase in output and a 20 Nm higher maximum torque. Moreover, the weight of the new engine has dropped by around two kilograms. Advancements have also been made in terms of acoustic comfort and the starting behaviour of the Auto Start Stop function.
The most significant attributes of the new four-cylinder diesel engine include the aluminium crankcase featuring thermally joined running bushes for reducing internal friction coefficients, integrated balanced shafts, enhanced thermodynamics, a map-controlled oil pump and an efficiency-optimised supercharger with variable intake geometry. Likewise optimised Common Rail Direct Injection features solenoid valve injectors that now guarantee a particularly accurately dosed fuel supply thanks to a maximum injection pressure of 2000 bar.
Additional gain in efficiency through new 6-speed manual transmission and further developed 8-speed Steptronic transmission.
The new generation of the four-cylinder engine in the BMW 220d Coupe coincides with the introduction of a new manual 6-speed transmission and the further development of the optionally available 8-speed Steptronic transmission, which have both been especially aligned to the engine’s performance characteristics. The new manual transmission of the BMW 220d Coupe offers control of power throughout the entire speed range, thereby optimising the car’s dynamic acceleration characteristics as well as gear shift comfort. During the gear shift process, with the help of a gear selector sensor, engine speed and the transmission input shaft are synchronised in order to ensure smooth engaging of the clutch. The latest version of the 8-speed Steptronic transmission offers increased spread, further optimised internal efficiency, further enhanced transmission control and a new vibration absorber. This results not only in improved acoustic and ride comfort but also in better shifting dynamics and efficiency.
In conjunction with both transmission variants, the increase in power output and torque delivered by the new diesel engine has a positive effect on the performance and acceleration of the BMW 220d Coupe. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h has now improved by 0.1 seconds to 7.1 seconds (manual 6-speed transmission) and 7.0 seconds (8-speed Steptronic transmission) respectively. Thanks to the increase in the engine’s power output, maximum trailer load of the BMW 220d Coupe is up by 300 to 1 500 kilograms.
