 Auto Start-Stop

 Red lights, traffic jams, train crossings – in everyday driving situations there are countless instances where the engine is idling, unnecessarily burning fuel. The Auto Start Stop function automatically switches off the engine when the vehicle is stationary and the driver engages the brake. This only happens when energy is not needed for anything else – such as for the air-conditioning system and rear window defroster – and as soon as the driver’s foot leaves the brake pedal, the engine starts up again. It’s a seamless and comfortable way to save fuel and protect the environment.

 8-Speed Sport Automatic Transmission
Provides extremely fast synchronized shifting. By increasing the number of gears to eight, the transmission provides a more efficient shifting sequence and improved fuel economy. Includes Adaptive Transmission Control (ATC) with Sport and Manual shift modes and steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. When in Sport mode, shifts can be generated via the console-mounted shift lever or the paddle shifters. The close spacing of the gear ratios of the optional 8-speed sport automatic transmission enables maxim use of the optimum rev range, significantly lowering fuel consumption and enhancing shift comfort.

 ECO PRO
ECO PRO mode teaches interested drivers to become fuel-efficient experts. Depending on individual driving style, it can result in a fuel savings of up to 20 percent. To motivate the driver, the additional miles gained are display as a bonus range by the on-board computer.   ECO PRO mode uses engine management software to adjust the engine’s output characteristics; the automatic transmission upshifts sooner and remains in a higher gear longer. In cars with manual transmission, the gear shift recommendations change accordingly.

 3.0-liter, TwinPower Turbocharged 6-cylinder engine, 300 hp
Generating 300 hp and 300 lb.-ft. of torque at 1300-5000 rpms, this advanced inline six is our first turbocharged engine offered in the U.S. in decades. Turbo lag has been virtually eliminated, thanks to Double-VANOS "steplessly" variable valve timing, direct fuel injection, and BMW's inspired use of the latest TwinPower Turbo technology. By using direct fuel injection - a high precision fuel injection system - we have overcome the traditionally poor gas mileage of turbocharging. The engine's innovative design includes an all-aluminum engine block with cast iron sleeves for durability, and a direct fuel injection system that also cools the engine. A cooler engine allows for a higher compression ratio (10.2:1 vs. 6:1 and 7:1 in other turbos), which translates into superior emission control, greater fuel efficiency and, most importantly, a thrilling performance.
